Introducing... Jonchery 7

If it’s action and the chance of some real lumps you’re after then this could be the lake for you.Jonchery 7 is owned by the prominent fish farming Bachelier family and is set close to the dam wall of the Lac d’Orient.

The lovely 5 acre lake sits on the same complex as its larger brother, the Jonchery main lake.  It has just one large double swim which gives you access to all areas of the lake – it’s perfect for you and a mate to enjoy exclusively.

What’s more, because the owners are fish farmers, the carp have been hand-picked and some of the scale patterns on the mirrors, together with beautiful linears, will make for fantastic trophy pictures - take a look at thevenue fish photos and you’ll see what we mean.

Fish the Edge of that Surface Scum

Paul Cooper is one of our expert Field Testers, here’s the most recent post from his 2013 Fishing Diary…

With the weather warming up I have been keeping an eye on the fish in my local syndicate water for signs of feeding fish. I called onto the lake mid-afternoon on the Sunday and saw around 20 carp milling around on the edge of the scum caused by the lake bottom breaking up and rising to the surface over the past 48 hours.

Within 15 minutes I had my first rod in the water on the edge of the scum in only 12 inches of water. The fish were cruising in and out of the scum feeding on what ever had gathered and were not perturbed by my putting a bait in their close vicinity.

I baited all three rods with some baits I had just fetched out of my freezer, the remnants of myQuality Baits Winter birdy mix. These were bright red/orange and a fruity flavour but I felt that they would work in this situation.

Within 20 minutes I had my first pick up and shortly after that landed a perfectly conditioned 18lb 9oz Common. Out went the same rod again baited with the birdy boilie. It took a while before the fish moved back into my corner but after an hour. Coincidently, I was again on the phone to Jim Kelly, when the same rod bent round and I was into a 23lb 14oz Common. A few quick self takes and the fish was quickly returned to the water. That was the last of the action as all the fish moved off and my evening meal was calling.

Beaurepaire Beauty

We received this picture through from Mr Downer who was fishing Beaurepaire as part of a group of six anglers this May.

Beaurepaire is a natural gravel pit of seven acres fed directly by the water table, just 2½ hours from Calais.

Details of your catches: Eleven cats to 49lb, six grass carp to 35lb, thirty one 20′s, twenty three 30′s and seven 40′s.  Biggest was 46lb and one common at 14lb.
Your best tactics/bait/rigs: Most baits worked; Cell, Rajah Spice, Matrix plus, Tigercell and tiger nuts single baits. Snowman and pop ups.
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Definitely.

Monster Trio for the Bexons

These 3 brute commons meant a new PB for each of the Bexons fishing at Commons Lake.

The total catch of 17 fish consisted of 3 x 40s, 8 x 30s, 4 x 20s and a 66lb catfish. The fish of the week though has to be Roz Bexon’s 47lb 8oz common.

Fine Specimens at Boux

Gary Western has kindly sent us these top-notch pictures from his trip to Boux last week, it’s certainly fishing well coming in to summer! 

The 14 acre carp lake is situated on the eastern edge of the stunning Morvan Regional Nature Park, sitting in a valley with rolling fields to one side and dense woodland surrounding the rest.

Details of your groups catches: 14 x 30s, 7 x 40s and 2 at 52lb and a mint 21lb koi.
Your best tactics/bait: Hemp and particles. Fished to far margin.
General comments: Very nice and tranquil left alone all week. Perfect. Fish in mint condition and fight very hard. Be going back that’s for sure.

They’re At It Again – Field Testing Tales

It’s the beginning of May and Ron and I are off to test a 17 acre lake for Angling Lines situated 150 miles South of Paris.

Promising Start

The new owner of the lake, Guilliam, only took ownership of the venue in January this year. Since taking on the lake he has stocked the lake with around 120 carp consisting of mid-twenties to his prize carp of just over 60lb. There are a number of back up fish in the forties with a good number of thirties, all in all for a new lake this is a magnificent head of carp. The lake itself is set in the middle of rural France and is totally surrounded by woodland, fields, and reed-lined margins. It is a place of beauty!

Problem Solving at Roseau Small

This week saw the return of the Vary party to Roseau, a group of lads from my neck of the woods, who visited us back in 2012. This year they booked the complex exclusively; with 11 anglers and both lakes to cover I was expecting them to have a great weeks angling as well as a week of socialising with the possibility of sinking a few cans or fifty…

Tony Vary and Jimmy were on the small lake in pegs 1&3. The small lake does fish at night and a 2 o’clock alarm is not uncommon so it’s most definitely well worth fishing the nights on here and that’s exactly what Tony planned on doing, Jimmy wasn’t going to fish peg one at night as this peg is into snags but the fish would receive free food should they frequent the area through the night.
