Catfish Info for Margot

Hi,

I’m fishing Margot in April and want to have a go for the cats… does anyone know how many and how big they are. :mrgreen:

Owner Michel Bigot estimates that there are between 30 and 40 cats in Margot.

He can’t give an exact number because lots of cats escape the annual netting by lying low in holes. However, in June 2012 the Margot catch reports were analysed over a 13 week period. The catch weights ranged between 26lb and 135lb and the average size cat banked during that period was 55lb.

I’ve started to put on the forum the water temperatures for Bletiere for this season. A lot of anglers like to see this as it’s a good guide to what other lakes temps may be over here and also shows when it’s getting near to possible spawning time.

I found a weather site the other day and it had some interesting figures for the last 20 years and below are a few that shows average rainy days and amount of rain for the peak months….

Month Rainfall (cm) Rainy days

March 5.74 15

April 5.68 14

May 6.42 15

June 5.72 11

July 6.05 10

August 3.88 10

September 5.67 11

October 7.0 8 15

This is for the Sarthe area and covers the last 20 years so not rocket science but a good indicator to the rainy days and from my experiance not far out.

54lb Common Carp is the New Villefond Record

Lac Du Villefond‘s Arthur at a Massive 55lb 4oz caught by Mark Lambert on 30/01/2013. Mark used a 16mm pop up on a size 8 curve shank hook over a bed of 16mm venue sold boilies.

New Carp Stocked at Holly Pools Carp Lake

Since deciding to use Angling Lines to represent Holly Pools from 2013 onwards, we have had many discussions about all aspects of the business with the Angling Lines team. What has become clear is that, having represented tens of fisheries all over France, there are certain directions that almost always give positive results. Stocking fish from the Michele Bigot fish farm seemed to be one thing that ALL the Angling Lines venues agreed was a positive thing. Strong young fish, with good shapes, and great genetics for strong growth rates are the trademarks of Bigot carp.

At Holly Pools we have some fantastically strong fighting commons that go up to upper 30’s (42lb when about to spawn!) but very few mirrors. We decided that we could improve the genetics in the lake, increase the variety of the fish and potentially add some fish with the capability to go on towards 50lb in the next couple of years. If you look at the pictures you can see that here are some fish any angler would be delighted to catch!
