Meet Richard, the new bailiff at Lillypool. We ask him how he got into the sport and what improvements he's been busy with down at the lake...
Lillypool is a beautiful 4 acre lake with an impressive head of fast growing Michel Bigot stocked carp up to a substantial 51lb. The lake is suitable for 4 to 5 anglers each having plenty of open water and fish holding features to cast to.

Counter-Intuitive Tactics at Vaux
Kevin was back at Vaux for round #4 this August, coming back with a bumper catch...
Details of your catches: Kevin: 34+ fish to 41lb ben: 13 fish to 46lb + roach, pike and perch
Your best tactics/bait/rigs: Crumbers boilies & boilies to dinner plate size baiting pattern and withy pool rigs and wafting baits
- Ben - 46lb
General comments: Superb facilities throughout. Very well managed lake and good swim layouts. This was my 4th visit to Vaux, so with all the helpful advice i have had from Chas at the venue in the past we were quietly confident that we might be able to catch a few carp this week even in the hot august summer.
- Kevin - 41lb
The best tactics we have come to realize for this venue is exactly what the owner recommends. It is counter intuitive to what most english anglers are used to but, 5oz in line drop off leads, bow string tight lines, size 4- 6 long shank barbed hooks on 25 -30lb hooklink material with wafting or popped up baits, with medium to heavy baiting produces good results.
There are no silly fishing rules at this venue and our catch of 47 fish for the week was our best yet, a 46lb mirror and a 41lb common being the highlights (we will be back for more).
If you can, during the august hot summer, fish overnight. 70% of our fish were between dusk and dawn. A beautiful, tranquil location, manicured swims, with a surrounding tree line offering shade in the hot sun and much wildlife to look for. Also, the extra sport of fishing for pike, perch and roach is a good bonus.

The Ultimate Barbless Hook Rig
Paul Cooper shows you the perfect barbless hook rig...
As some of our newer lakes, such as Jonchery and Brie, now enforce a barbless only hook rule, our field testers have been set the challenge to find the right rig for the job. This is the rig Paul Cooper found to be most successful when tackling these waters recently.

A Recent Report From E.S.P. Angler Sean Trafford
ESP’s Sean Trafford recently convinced his family to take their holiday at the beautiful La Gléhias fishery in France, landing a great selection of fish, including this 32lb beauty!
We took our yearly trip to France last week but this one was slightly different as my partner and our little one came along to see what the fuss was all about. We arrived at the lake and what a beautiful sight it was! Just as we started to walk around the lake a mid-30 head & shouldered out of the water tight to the far bank (always a good sign when seeing a new lake for the 1st time).
- 32lb
After a walk round with the owner Lee, we had decided on the swims we would fish. I treat France as a holiday and if you catch a few then it’s a bonus! After a few casts around the swim with the marker rod I had my 3 spots chosen and marked down. We choose not to fish the first night as we were still tired from all the traveling, so everything got set up with a little bit of bait trickled in over the spots and then it was time to catch up on some lost sleep.
- Sean and Family
We caught frequently during the week and only fished from early evening to mid-morning in order to give our swims a rest. Between the 3 of us fishing, we had a total of 38 fish with a combined weight of 809lb 07oz which included 14 Mirrors, 14 Commons, 3 Grass Carp, 1 Koi & 6 Catfish.
All fish were caught using ESP Original Camo Leadcore with an Adjustable Lead Clip down to ESP Two Tone 20lb in Green or Brown, to either an ESP Big T Raptor Size 5 or an ESP Curve Shanx Size 6. Bait-wise, the fish were caught on Oxford Carp Baits & Quest Baits Boilies over lake pellet.
La Gléhias was a new venue for us so we weren't too sure what to expect from it – but we were more than happy with the end result!

A Carp Fishing Trip To France At Last
Alex & James finally managed to get time off from work together to make their often talked about & long awaited first fishing trip to Genets on the 17th August...
- 47lb - James
During the hot spell of the past few weeks the fishing has been far from easy but Alex & James put their minds to it & really worked for their carp. They ended their week with 40 Carp banked between them including new PB’s of 47lb for James & 36lb for Alex. The majority of their fish were caught on Sticky Baits The Krill boilies.
Their comments were: “We both enjoyed our stay at Genets, we both had several PB’s and will definitely be back next year.”
Well done Guys.
Larry & Heather.
