A Great End to the Season

Golden Oak Season ends in style with a 29 fish catch culminating in 'the Boss' at 59.8!

Impact Angling Media’s Nic Brown and Michelin starred Mid Summer Patron chef Daniel Clifford enjoyed a dream week at Golden Oak in Limoges, resulting in a 29 fish catch culminating in the boss at a very healthy 59.8lbs.
The week started brilliantly with Daniel netting a stunning 38lbs + Mirror within hours of casting out and things just got better from there with fish coming consistently throughout the week.
Nic and Dan arrived with a simple goal, to catch 10 fish each with a couple of 40’s amongst them, thankfully the boys exceeded that goal, and then some!
Dan broke his PB twice during the week, firstly with a stunning 42+ Mirror and then 12 hours later that PB was eclipsed again with another incredible 45+ Mirror, Dan went on to have a further 8 fish; all Dan’s fish were caught on Dynamite Baits new Red Ammo in various sizes.
Nic had a consistent week landing a total of 19 fish ranging from a scaly little Mirror of 19lbs all the way up to the king of the lake, the Boss at a breath-taking 59.8lbs!
Fishing the right hand side of the Gite swim toward the dam wall, Nic fished tight to the far margin snags and spread a combination of Mainline’s Cell and Activ 8 liberally all along the far bank.
Here's what Nic had to say about the lake - 'The fish are immaculate, and fight like horses. If i hadn't been lucky enough to catch the boss we would definitely be back. A right jewel in the angling lines portfolio that doesn't get half the recognition it deserves.'

Golden Oak Continues to Prove Itself

Chris Long, Dave Price and George Evans dropped in at Golden Oak for the week at short notice early this summer, only going on to land the boss at 63lb 8oz!

Details of your catches: 2 singles, 12 twenties, 7 thirties and the boss at 63lb 8oz. All in great condition and put up a good old fight.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs: After finding out from dick that the fish have a constant feed containing lots of maize and pale pulses going in I opted to top my baits off with a bit of plastic corn. Had a cracking few days and it wasn't long before the other two anglers cottoned on changing to a pineapple pop up over dicks party mix. Listen to his advice, fish the spots that are known for producing and be sure to pin your lines down. Don't ignore the shallows, had some great days watching the fish basking in the sun with no more than a rod, mat and net. Nothing better than hearing your persistence pay off when your drag starts screaming.

Were the facilities what you expected? The facilities on site are second to none. We were fully prepared to spend the full week in our bivvies and arrived to find a beautiful building with three bedrooms, all ensuite, dinning area with all the facilities you need to prepare a slap up meal, a well maintained garden and patio area and even sky tv. If by any chance there is anything that you need or have forgotten, speak to joe and dick and they are always happy to accommodate.

Were you happy with them? Was above and beyond our expectations.

Accommodation overall:

Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Would recommend golden oak lake to any group of keen anglers. The fact that you are not tied to a peg means you are free to roam and drop in your baits wherever takes your fancy and the fact the the lake is all your means there are no other anglers to worry about. I would also recommend this place for anyone who struggles to find the time or money due to family commitments. This place is ideal for the family to relax, visit the resident goats, horses etc whilst allowing you to drop in a couple of lines. The gardens roll straight onto the lake (with gates to keep the kids away :)) allowing you to socialise whilst being close enough when your alarms begin to sound.

Would you recommend our services to a friend? We opted to take the food package which was very reasonably priced. I can't describe how good the food was, full english in the morning and a home cooked three course meal in the evening. Joe is a miracle worker in the kitchen and you will not find a better pastry anywhere else. If you are a fussy eater like myself, Joe is more than happy to offer up an alternative.

General comments: We booked golden oak a week before we were due to leave due to our original booking with another complex being cancelled so we were just happy to have somewhere to fish. We were blown away when we arrived to find that the whole site and accommodation was ours to use as we please. Joe and dick can not be more accommodating and it was lovely to sit down and have a beer with a couple who care so much about their business, fish and guests.

Don't arrive with the preconception that you know it all, listen to what they have to say and take their advice. We did after having a slow day and managed to bank the boss at a new lake record of 63lb 8oz. The fish are beautiful, it's nice to see a fish with everything intact. The food on site was amazing and after showing pics of the facilities and fish to some of my fellow anglers, i already have competition for the dates i want next year, missus in tow if i can convince. 5 star plus. Thanks for a great week Joe & Dick and see you sometime next year.

Golden Oak – Short Session Success!

Here’s a round-up of Colin Poynton’s feedback whilst fishing at Golden Oak last week. A successful week, nice one Colin!
“Only fished short sessions – mornings and evenings, the fishing was superb!!! Caught fish in every session. Accommodation is fantastic with excellent facilities.Dick and Jo are fantastic hosts and cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble. We also enjoyed several day trips out to local towns (as recommended by Dick and Jo) where there is plenty to do and loads of places to eat and drink. To sum up – we will be seeing you again next year! :-) “
Details of your catches: 2 x 40′s, biggest being the 45.06 below, 7 x 30′s, 9 x 20′s and one double at 15lb 12oz.

Your best tactics/bait: Listen to Dicks advice, he knows where the fish feed. Keep a steady flow of bait continually going in. I fed with Dicks party mix and boilies; catching on all three spots. I fished simple rig, snowman style, to far bank and dam head.

Additional Carp Stock Added at Golden Oak

We decided to increase our fish stock after identifying a gap in the 20 to 30lb range. Our existing fish have put on so much weight that we are in the great position of having plenty of 30 to 50lb fish, and of course we have to mention The Boss at a magnificent 59lb plus. I wonder what he will weigh this spring? The quality of fish supplied to us by Michel & Laurent Bigot at our last restock was truly remarkable, they have all done so well, so we placed another order with confidence.

A good size Mirror decides to make me wetter than I already am
The weather had been pretty awful, but I don’t need to tell you about bad weather, do I?  I really think Team Bigot have divine guidance… they picked the perfect slot between the torrential rain, ice, & hurricane strength winds.  We’d asked a couple of friends to help out as we didn’t want to push our luck weather wise – but it’s amazing how quickly you can move when the sky goes that deep purple colour!
Laurent didn’t disappoint us & we received a lovely selection of mirrors & some of the best commons we’ve seen.  All the carp were between 5 and 6 years old, weighing between 20 to 26lb and in absolutely pristine condition.
Dick as ever, kept a close eye on the lake, adjusting the level as the rain fell and spotted some of the newcomers exploring. They are obviously a gourmet strain of carp as they are guzzling up Dicks Mix already! That’s it, boys, anyone for 2nds?
We managed to get some great still shots but we passed the camcorder to a friend & sorry, but everyone can make a mistake.  We have lovely shots of water, lorry, Dicks left ear, weigh sling (empty at the time) goats, and grass! Don’t give up the day job, Jacky!
